Deck the Halls Home Holiday Tour, a fundraiser for the Eastview Community Foundation (EVCF), will be held Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11, Noon-4PM. Attendees will be able to tour 5 homes in Apple Valley and Eagan beautifully decorated for the holidays by local vendors: Bushel & Peck, Ficus & Fig, At Home, and Kowalski’s Market. The League of Women Voters Dakota County will host a public forum concerning gun violence in America and related public policy issues. The forum is free and all are invited to attend. The forum will consist of a brief presentation on gun violence data, a review of current Minnesota gun laws by Burnsville Police Sergeant David Powers, and a panel discussion considering potential strategies to reduce gun violence and related 2nd Amendment issues. The panel discussion will be moderated by Mary Rice, President of LWV Bloomington. Panelists will include Rev. Nancy Nord Bence, Executive Director of Protect Minnesota, Bryan Strawser, Chairman of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, Rep. Erin Maye Quade, MN House District 57A, and Rep. Steve Drazkowski, MN House District 21B. The panel discussion will include a question and answer session. Members of the public may submit questions for the panelists either in advance via email to lwvdakotacty@lwvmn.org or in writing during the forum. The forum will be recorded and video of the event will be published online at lwvdakotacounty.org and on LWV Dakota County’s Facebook page. LWV Minnesota and LWV of the U.S. have adopted various policy positions with regard to guns and violence prevention. However, this forum is intended to be educational and feature a variety of viewpoints, rather than support the policy positions adopted by the League of Women Voters. |

Eagan’s new Police Chief, Roger New, is a 24-year veteran of the department who has risen steadily through the ranks. New, 47, holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. Starting in 1994 as an Eagan police officer, New rose to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2004 and just two years later was promoted to Lieutenant. He was appointed Deputy Chief in 2016, and is looking forward to the challenge of leading Eagan’s 89-person department, with 73 sworn officers. Chief New became Eagan's Chief of Police on July 1, 2018. |

Eagan Kick-Start Rotary Club invites other Rotarians and community members to work together. Rotarians believe in "Service Above Self" and seek to make change in local and global communities through our activities. Join us in a grant project supported by Rotary District 5950 for the 2018-2019 Rotary year. This year, we are planning a long project install native gardens at Art Works and Caponi Art Park. During our Winter planning, we will design and build picnic and park benches for installation at both Art Works and Caponi Art Park. During our Spring work days, we will plant screen shrubs and native gardens and complete the project with delivery of benches that are engraved with Rotary recognition. We are hoping to engage volunteerism from many different groups passionate about green spaces, native restoration, pollinator habitats, arts in our community, and gathering around service. |

Mark Daniel Maloney is a principal in the law firm of Blackburn, Maloney, and Schuppert LLC, with a focus on taxation, estate planning, and agricultural law. He represents large farming operations in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States, and has chaired the American Bar Association’s Committee on Agriculture in the section of taxation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar Association, and the Alabama Law Institute.
He has been active in Decatur’s religious community, chairing his church’s finance council and a local Catholic school board. He has also served as president of the Community Foundation of Greater Decatur, chair of Morgan County Meals on Wheels, and director of the United Way of Morgan County and the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce.
A Rotarian since 1980, Maloney has served as an RI director; Foundation trustee and vice chair; and aide to 2003-04 RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe. He also has participated in the Council on Legislation as chair, vice chair, parliamentarian, and trainer. He was an adviser to the 2004 Osaka Convention Committee and chaired the 2014 Sydney Convention Committee.
Prior to serving as a district governor, Maloney led a Group Study Exchange to NigeriaHe also served as Future Vision Committee vice chair; regional Rotary Foundation coordinator; Foundation training institute moderator; Foundation permanent fund national adviser; member of the Peace Centers Committee; and adviser to the Foundation’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools Target Challenge Committee.

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 12:45pm, at the Minnesota State Office Building, Room 10, the Minnesota House Transportation and Finance Committee will be conducting a hearing on House Bill No. HF0593, which, when passed, will eventually allow us to purchase special, Rotary International, Minnesota license plates for our cars and motorcycles. Please come to the hearing and support our efforts that have been years in the making. We will have Rotarians speaking in support of the legislation. |
